On a cool and rainy day, I arrived around 9am and was greeted by a friendly gentleman at the gate and Doug, KSNR chairman was there welcoming us.
Our group was me, Helga and Riaz.
Whilst walking through the reserve taking photos of the flora and fauna, zebra and different species of buck grazing, rabbits hopping about, birds twittering in the trees, one could not believe that just 20mins from the bustling city of Durban there was this beautiful nature reserve.
The Stainbank family castle still stands, and my imagination overtook me as to how splendid it must have been back in the 1800’s.
Doug was very informative on the history of the Stainbank family and the building of the castle.
I will most certainly be back to trail walk and just enjoy the peace, tranquillity, and beauty of the reserve.

Kenneth Stainbank Reserve has an amazing array of fauna and flora. My phone was just clicking away taking pictures of all the beautiful flowers, trees, and animals. A tranquil lake had a lot of weavers building nests and impressing the females.
We are blessed at still having a nature paradise so close to a bustling city.
There was a lot of excitement with everybody trying to outdo each other with their pictures but there was also a lot of sharing and team work as well.
I hope that our info has helped the observers see what there is and that it will stay preserved for generations to come.
