🌎 Gran Biobúsqueda del Sur 2025 — Jardín, Antioquia, Colombia

Celebrating Biodiversity in the Heart of the Andes | October 24–27, 2025

Jardín, Antioquia, a jewel of Colombia's Andean region, joins the international movement to document and celebrate biodiversity during the Gran Biobúsqueda del Sur (Great Southern Bioblitz, GSB) 2025. From October 24 to 27, citizens, naturalists, students, and researchers will come together across the Southern Hemisphere for four days of intensive biodiversity observation.

This year, Jardín and the surrounding San Juan River basin—with its forests, coffee plantations, nature reserves, and cloud-shrouded trails—take center stage as a biodiversity hotspot. Whether you’re an expert or a curious beginner, this is your chance to contribute to global citizen science.

🌿 What is the Great Southern Bioblitz?

Since 2020, communities from Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania have united each austral spring to record the living organisms in their surroundings. Originating in Australia, the GSB is now a globally coordinated event that empowers local communities to document biodiversity, raise awareness, and support conservation science through the iNaturalist platform.

🐾 How Can You Participate?

It’s simple:

  1. Explore: Visit your backyard, farm, a local stream, reserve, or forest.

  2. Observe & Photograph: Record any plant, insect, bird, fungus, reptile, or mammal you find.

  3. Upload to iNaturalist: Use iNaturalist Colombia to share your observations. Your records will be verified by a global network of experts and used for research and education.

💡 Can’t go outside? You can still help by identifying observations online—every contribution counts!
