About the event

The Great Southern Bioblitz 2023 (GSB 2023) starts in less than two weeks! Our society will take part in this event, and host our very own walk on Sunday 26 November at the Brisbane Koala Bushlands.

Jet tickets here

This will be a pollinator themed guided walk (plant, bug and bird focused), with a focus on relationships between species! The walk will be identifying and photographing heavy, with our records contributing to the massive southern hemisphere biodiversity survey.

All experiences are welcome, but you will need to be equipped with keen eyes for spotting species and be ready to learn about them all. We will be using the citizen science related platform iNaturalist to submit photo records, and the more you can contribute the better understanding we will get for our local ecosystem!

A strong cast of specialists in a variety of fields will be volunteering their time and joining us on our walk to guide us through species identifications as well as to share their incredible knowledge in ecology and conservation with us, they are:

Our very own Brisbane based iNaturalist expert - Greg Tasney, approaching 100K iNaturalist records!

The brilliant Ann Moran, botanist who has travelled far and wide in the essence of plant conservation.

Mike Fox - Pollinator Link entrepreneur - passionate about creating native pollinator linkages throughout the density of urban Brisbane.

John Moss, a leading expert from the Butterflys and Invertebrates Club and the author of the book "The Mistletoes of Subtropical Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria".

and our Tom Lloyd, President of our society and an experienced birder and photographer.
