The 'Great Southern BioBlitz', or 'GSB' for short, is an international period of intense biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within several designated areas across the Southern Hemisphere in Spring.

Calling citizens scientists young and old, any experience level, for a relaxed, outdoor picnic tea and Moth Night in the beautiful Brownhill Creek/Wirraparinga valley to participate in the 2022  'Great Southern BioBlitz' for the Greater Adelaide region.

Bullock Hill Bird Walk - Great Southern Bioblitz

Join Conservation Volunteers Australia on a BioBlitz at Bullock Hill Conservation Park on October 29 and contribute to the largest citizen science effort in the Southern Hermisphere: the Great Southern BioBlitz. Our walk will be guided by John Gitsham and beginners and bird enthusiasts are welcome.

Spotlight Saunter/moth survey, Waite Conservation Reserve

29 Oct, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm ACDT

Visit Waite Conservation Reserve after dark and see what we often miss and while you are there contribute to the Great Southern Bioblitz. We will try to record as many species as possible and have a moth light in addition to a night walk.

we will be using the iNaturalist platform it s very easy to use. Simply take a photograph with your phone then upload the image.

Spring Walk and Great Southern Bioblitz, Friends of Black Hill and Morialta Inc.

We will once again hold our Spring Walk! This time in Black Hill near the Wildflower Garden. There will be three options of walks

1. A brisk Spring walk up the Summit trail and back down the Nature trail

2. A ramble up the summit trail going through vegetation taking photos of what we find and uploading to Inaturalist as part of the Great Southern Bioblitz

3. An easy walk looking for orchids around the area

Wirrarninthi BioBlitz

Become a citizen scientist for two hours! Recording biodiversity here on the Wirrarninthi Environmental trail in Park 23.

Join thousands of fellow Australians around the country, in using your smart-phone to observe and record whatever life you can see or hear in one of the rare precious bushland areas in your Adelaide Park Lands. The Adelaide Park Lands Association is hosting one of the many many events nation-wide for the Great Southern BioBlitz,

Chookarloo BioBlitz

  • Join ForestrySA staff and botanical experts from the Native Orchid Society of South Australia to learn how  to become a citizen scientist using the iNaturalist app in the beautiful surroundings of Chookarloo Camp ground and picnic area in Kuitpo Forest Reserve.

  • Join thousands of fellow Australians around the country in using your smart-phone to observe and record what you see or hear using iNaturalist

  • Increase your awareness and knowledge of the forest biodiversity.

Cleland BioBlitz, Walk & Bushcare

12:30pm 30 Oct, 

Guided walk with Friends of Cleland National Park to learn about nature with iNaturalist app & give back to nature by weeding out Broom etc.

We will meet at the Measly Lookout carpark, near Eagle of the Hill, and walk down to the Carro Track which runs beside a creek. We might see orchids on the way! Download the iNaturalist app before you come and try making a few observations! We will show you how to use iNaturalist to record & upload the observations. While we are there, you will also join us to perform our favourite activity weeding including Broom & Erica.

Laratinga Wetlands, Mount Barker

Night Walk and Moths at Galbraith Park

To kick off the GSB 2022 in the Whitsundays, Whitsunday Catchment Landcare will be holding a Night Walk and Moth attracting event on Friday 28th (6.30 - 8.30 pm) at Galbraith Park, Cannonvale. Galbraith Park has been progressively revegetated by WCL over the last 10 years and we are keen to document the biodiversity now residing in the Park.

iNaturalist Workshop - Great Southern BioBlitz

It’s the perfect time to get outside and experience the wonderful natural beauty Yarra has to offer. During the Great Southern BioBlitz (from 28-31 October), citizens of the Southern Hemisphere help preserve biodiversity by detailing all the natural organisms that live around us. In this special workshop, learn how to use the app iNaturalist to record species, research plants and find out what you can explore in your area. Come for a walk along the gorgeous Yarra River so you can practice ahead of BioBlitz.

Moth Night with Entomological Society at Bungalook Conservation Reserve, Kilsyth South 

28 Oct. 2022 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm AEDT

The Entomological Society of Victoria is assisting the City of Maroondah with their Great Southern Bioblitz 2022 event at Bungalook Conservation Reserve, Kilsyth South.

Meet at Bungalook Conservation Reserve at the end of Terredan Drive. Moth sheets will be setup in various locations in the park to see what kinds of insects we can attract.

Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary  have teamed up with the Botany and Plant Ecology Society of LTU to undertake a blitz of the native vegetation reserve beside the Rio Tinto Technology Block at La Trobe University.
This block of land is fairly under surveyed so let's change that and see how many species we can find!
